Ahead of early voting starting this Tuesday in the Democratic Party Primary, the Williamson County Democratic Party is publishing a series of posts highlighting the races and candidates voters can expect to find on their ballots. Each post focuses on a different office and presents all candidates with the opportunity to answer the same series of four questions. This post introduces the candidates for the Texas House of Representatives, Districts 20 and 52.
Members of the Texas House of Representatives play a vital role in shaping the laws and policies that directly affect Texans. Representing a district within the Texas House of Representatives, they propose new state laws, debate important issues, and cast votes that help determine how Texas functions. They participate in specialized committees to address pressing matters and have a say in how the state’s tax dollars are allocated.

Why are you running for office?
Why do you feel it’s important to do so as a Democrat?
Drawing from my experience in rural and behavioral health, I’ve witnessed the routine neglect and disregard of our communities for profit. For 20+ years I have tirelessly worked outside of the system. Joining the coalition of Democratic leadership is the next step for impactful policy-level change.
What are your qualifications?
With over 20 years as a healthcare expert, I’ve served on White House commissions, influencing national policies. A collaborative leader, I address systemic health issues and passionately contribute to public education on various boards, reflecting a commitment to community well-being.
What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
My priorities are a result of listening to the community and my expertise in public policy. I will fight for strengthening public education, expanding healthcare, and supporting communities. This includes expanding voter rights, repealing abortion restrictions, infrastructure and worker investments.
Why should voters choose you in the Democratic Primary?
A combination of personal and professional experiences, strong local ties, and steadfast commitment to addressing the unique needs of HD52 position me as the ideal Democratic candidate to beat Caroline Harris. I’m a dedicated advocate for the change Texas needs.

Why do you feel it’s important to do so as a Democrat?
My run for public office is driven by lived experience. Growing up in HD52,I faced challenges when our government systems failed me and my family. I’m committed to making sure our government works for everyone when they need it but also doesn’t overreach and overstep on our civil rights and liberties.
What are your qualifications?
My lived experience and career advocating for reforms in our justice system, for equity in our laws, and as an organizer, makes me uniquely qualified to work within our government structure to bring real change in our community.
What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
My policy focus if elected will be to repeal the abortion ban, fully fund public education, raise teacher’s pay, expand Medicaid and funding for rural hospitals, reduce gun violence, and get the government out of our private lives.
Why should voters choose you in the Democratic Primary?
Voters deserve a candidate who not only has the lived experience of our community but has the expertise & track record to deliver for the district. I’ve been doing that through my advocacy and career, I’m the candidate who can take this campaign all the way & bring new leadership to HD52 in November.
