The Williamson County Democratic Party voted unanimously to endorse the three school bond propositions on the May 6 ballot in Leander ISD.
Following a lengthy study and planning process by the district’s Citizens Facility Advisory Committee the school board called an election for the $762.82 million bond package.
The bond package will not increase the district tax rate for next year if passed. The combined Maintenance and Operations (M&O) and Interest and Sinking (I&S) tax rate for next year is projected at $1.264 per $100 valuation, down a penny from the current rate of $1.2746. The overall tax rate has dropped each of the last five years as the Texas legislature has compressed the M&O rate and the district has paid off debt to reduce the I&S rate.
Proposition A includes $698.33 million for new facilities, renovations and modernization on several campuses, vehicles, and buses. Two new elementary schools are the biggest ticket items in Proposition A, along with the modernization plans. It also includes state-mandated security upgrades and athletic and outdoor equipment improvements across the district.
Proposition B is $50.82 million for technology infrastructure upgrades and improvement as well as equipment, including devices for students. Proposition C is $13.67 million for renovations to two performing arts centers.
