Williamson County Democratic Party Chair announces his intent to run for TX House District 136.
Last night at the WCDP Awards Dinner, WilCo Dems Party Chair John Bucy announced that he intends to run for Texas House District 136.
Chairman Bucy said that he intends to file for the State House race around the filing deadline.
What this means for the County Party:
According to Texas Election Code Title 10. Sec. 161.005 if Bucy files for the Texas House he will no longer be able to serve as the County Party Chair.
At the time of formally resigning, Bucy in compliance with the WCDP bylaws will call for an election of a successor to the County Chair to be held at the Feb. 8th regular EC meeting. This election will be to finish out the County Chair's remaining term. Any current Precinct Chairs at the time of resignation will vote on the new chair to finish out the remaining term. Before resigning, pursuant to TX. Election code 171.205 D, John will designate Jose Orta the WilCo Dems First Vice Chair as Temporary Chair.
Orta will take nominations starting at the January 11, EC meeting, and nominations will be accepted up until the vote at the February meeting. Any applicant wanting to run must complete the filing form found here, https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/pol-sub/2-1f.pdf and submit it to Orta.
Please note that this is separate from the race for the term of county chair for the 2 years following. To file for that term an individual must comply with the filing deadline of December 11, 2017, to be eligible for a place on the Primary ballot.
