Taylor, TX. March 19, 2016.
The Williamson County Democratic Party held its county convention at the Taylor Main Street Events Center, 3101 N. Main Street, Taylor, Texas on Saturday, March 19th, 2016. Hundreds of Wilco Democrats gathered to celebrate the values and achievements of our party, to elect delegates to represent Wilco at the Texas Democratic Party Convention in San Antonio (Alamodome, June 16-18), to pass resolutions Wilco Democrats would like included in the Texas Democratic Party Platform, to meet Democratic candidates who will be running for office in November, to interact with party leaders, and to have a good time!
Among other things that happened at the convention, we enjoyed the following events:
The Honorable Jesse Ancira, Jr, Mayor of Taylor, Chief of Staff to the Texas Speaker of the House, former Associate Deputy Comptroller, former Assistant State Auditor, and a former Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation welcomed us to Taylor and talked to us about the importance of participating in the the political process.
Keynote speaker Mike Collier, Houston businessman, Finance Co-chair of the Texas Democratic Party, and leader of the post 2014-general election evaluation, delivered an inspiring message about the future of the party and our role in moving us ever closer to returning our state to its Democratic roots.
The Reverend Wendell Hosey entertained and inspired us with his reenactment of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. His performance inspired the delegates. It can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufIWTali9mY
Soloist and former Wilco Democrat graced us with an exhilarating rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner," Army Sgt. Patricia Caldwell led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Reverend Milton Jordan delivered an inspirational invocation urging us to fight for justice and humanity.
We also heard presentations from Mike Clark who is running for U.S. Congressman, District 31; Dr. Judy Jennings who is running for State Board of Education, District 10; Paul Gordan, Candidate for Texas House of Representatives, District 136; and Terry Cook, and Candidate for Williamson County Commissioners Court, District 1. We've got the right candidates. Now we need to work to get them elected.
The WCDP thanks the hundreds of Democrats who served as delegates at the convention. We look forward to you working with us through November as we increase our Democratic Party influence in our county. It's time to elect Democrats to represent us in partisan positions at national, state, and local levels, as well as in non-partisan positions on city councils, school boards, and on MUD boards.
