Texas Democratic State Convention
June 16-18, 2016
San Antonio, TX
The Texas Democratic Party will have it's State Convention on June 16-18 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Go to: http://texasdemocraticconvention.com/ to get info on various convention topics (hotel, convention committees, national delegates, etc.).

At the State Convention, delegates from all 254 Texas Counties attend the convention and cast their votes to adopt a Democratic Party Platform, elect party officers and Democratic National Committee members, and adopt reports from the Rules, Credentials, Nominations, Platform and Resolutions committees.
At the State Convention, delegates elect the chair, vice chairs, treasurer and secretary of the Party. The delegates are grouped by state senatorial districts and elect two representatives, one man and one woman, to the SDEC. This group performs the statutorily required business of the Party. The SDEC has additional constituency group representatives who participate in all other decisions of the SDEC.
It is also at the State Convention where the parties will decide which delegates — who will have pledged to certain candidates based on the Texas primary vote — will represent them at the national conventions. If you want to be a national delegate, you must attend the state convention.

After the State Convention, the 2016 Democratic National Convention will be be held July 25–28, 2016, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, with some events at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Most of our delegates have attended at either the SD-5 Orientation Caucus in April or the Wilco Orientation Caucus in May. At these orientation caucuses, we reviewed the important tasks and opportunities that delegates representing SD-5 and Williamson County at the Texas Democratic Party could expect at the convention.
We also discussed the convention process for electing delegates to the National Democratic Party, and for electing delegates to represent SD-5 on each convention committee.

>Nominations for SDEC and DNC Members
There is no deadline for notifying SD-5 or the TDP about your intentions to run for a convention committee. You can even wait to declare your candidacy at the SD-5 meeting at the convention. However, the TDP website enables committee candidates to register online. When you register, other SD-5 delegates can see who is running and you can campaign among your fellow delegates to get their vote.
All delegates may go online at the TDP website to see who has registered his or her intent to campaign for a position on a convention committee.
DELEGATES CANNOT MISS THE FOLLOWING EVENTS:
> Registration. Friday, June 17, 8am-1:30pm.
> Wilco Caucus. Friday, June 17, 2pm-3pm.
> SD-5 Caucus. Friday, June 17, 3pm-5pm.
The location of registration will be evident when you enter the convention center. The location of the SD-5 caucus will be listed in your program which you will get when you register. The location of the Wilco caucus will not be in the program. You must get this information from the people registering Wilco delegates.
After the Senate District meetings, all delegates will move to the hall where the convention will be called to order. If we have not completed our SD-5 tasks before 5pm, we will have to return to our SD-5 meeting after the convention adjourns.
STILL NEED SOMEONE TO SHARE A HOTEL ROOM, AND/OR SOMEONE TO CARPOOL WITH TO THE CONVENTION?
At the caucuses delegates wanting to share a room or carpool to the convention exchanged telephone numbers. If you are still looking for buddies, send a message to WCDP County Chair Karen Carter at karencarter2008 indicating what your needs are. Include your name, telephone number, and e-mail address in your message. We can guarantee nothing, but we will create a list of people who want to share a ride or a room. We will send that information to each of you.
RESIGNING YOUR POSITION AS A DELEGATE:
In the event a delegate has to resign a delegate position, it will be necessary to notify The county party in writing of that action. Email is acceptable. The TDP informed us today that it is possible we may not be able to replace delegates who resign. Ergo, we would appreciate it if you would please try your best to arrange your situation so you can retain your delegate position.
ON INTO THE FUTURE:
Our work from now until November will help determine the future of our nation, our state and our county. Never under estimate the value of your efforts toward protecting our democracy and ensuring a truly representative government for all of us. The WCDP looks forward to working with you as you prepare to represent our county at the state convention, and we are excited to have you as a partner who will support the campaign throughout the summer and achieving Democratic victories in November.
