Williamson County Democratic Party
Fighting for you. Better schools. Better jobs. Better government.
The Williamson County Democratic Party needs:
Primary Election pollworkers We are especially short on workers who are bilingual (Spanish and English), but we still need workers who speak only English as well. What would I have to do: 1) Get the polling place ready for people to vote.
2) Check in voters who have come to vote, and give them ballots or help them vote on the voting machine. 3) Close up the polling place when voting has ended. Is there compensation?
All workers will be paid $8.00 per hour. Will I get training?
Judges will get hands-on training from the Elections Department. Judges, Alternate Judges and Clerks must complete the Elections Departments' online training. The State of Texas does not pay for training, but the state requires that anyone who works must have received training or the state will not pay him or her.
How long will I work on election day? May 29, 2012.
The polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Workers must be there to set up the polling place before the polls open. Setting up the polling place involves arranging the space, posting signs and instructions, and getting the voting machines ready to go. Your Election Judge will tell you what time to arrive. (Some judges prefer having their team set up the day before if that is an option at their polling places so pollworkers do not have to come so early on election day morning.) Election workers remain after the polls close long enough to complete the paperwork, remove the signs, and close out the voting machines. Generally, it is a 13-14 hour day.
Aside: Sometimes, election recruiters can arrange to have two people share the day -- one person comes in to open the polling place and leaves at 1; his or her partner comes in at 1:00 and stays until the pollworkers have completed their tasks after the polling place closes.

Notice to all Williamson County Delegates
What: Pre-Convention Caucus of Senate District 5 Delegates and Alternates to the State Convention.
Every two years prior to the Texas Democratic Party State Convention, delegates elected to represent the counties in Senate District 5 (SD5) gather. It is here that we get to meet each other and build relationships with people from other county parties in SD5. We learn who among us is going to run for seats allotted to us (1) on the SDEC (senate district executive committee), (2) in the convention committees, and (3) for national delegate. It is not required that you attend this meeting if you want to run for those positions at the state convention, but it is an excellent opportunity to build support for your candidacy.
EVERY ONE WHO IS CONSIDERING RUNNING FOR ONE OF THESE POSITIONS WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK. Even if you do not intend to run for any of the positions, attending this meeting will give you an opportunity to meet the candidates.
No positions will be voted on until the official SD5 Caucus meeting that will be held Friday, June 8, at the Texas Democratic Convention in Houston!
When: May 19, 2012; 10:00 pm until 3:00 pm
Where: Truman Kimbro Center, 111 West Trinity, Madisonville, Texas
There will be a $10 charge to cover expenses. Lunch will be provided. If you plan to attend and have not made your reservation, contact Laura Cannon immediately at 936-348-1425 to let her know you will be attending so she can plan for the meal.

Reminder to all Williamson County Democrats
The date of the June Meeting of the county party has been changed. We will meet on Tuesday, June 5th. Normally, the WCDP holds monthly meetings on the second Thursday of the month. After each primary election, however, county parties are required to canvass the vote (i.e., report and certify the results) shortly after the election. The canvass of the May 29, 2012 Primary Election must be completed prior to noon on June 6, 2012. Therefore, during the April meeting, the WCDP voted to change the party's May meeting date from Thursday, June 14, to Tuesday, June 5, 2012. We will canvass the vote and hold our monthly meeting at the same time.
